On April 8th, 2021 the Premier of Ontario announced the province would be in a State of Emergency and a Stay-at-Home Order was issued. What does this mean to TBYC and our membership?
Under the Stay-at-Home Order, individuals are only permitted to leave their homes for purposes deemed essential. Within that order, exercising and physical activity are acceptable reasons for individuals to leave their homes. Individuals are also permitted to leave their homes for work or volunteering when the nature of the work (paid or volunteer) requires it to be done outside of the household. With regard to TBYC, volunteer work must be deemed as required to be done outside the house by the club.
Boating clubs, such as TBYC, may be open to provide opportunities to individuals for recreational sailing and launch.
Under the Regulations:
- The fundamental practices of physical distancing, wearing masks and keeping groups to no more than 5 people must continue to be followed and enforced.
- There shall be no group gatherings nor shall we host any organized activity with more than 5 people.
- Failure to meet this, or any other requirement, may result in the organization, the Directors and/or the individuals facing fines.
- Use of the clubhouse is restricted to the use of the washrooms or first aid areas only, through the back door.
- Boat owners doing activity with their boats should only be with household members.
- Signage about screening and other expectations must be posted.
- Everyone is required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the boatyard and should keep a personal record of dates and times in attendance at the facility in the event contact tracing is required at some future time.
The Board and the Flag Officers are keeping a close eye on developments as well as changes to regulations and directions from government authorities. All members should continue to follow advisories and comply with information provided to the public through the Public Health Agency of Canada, as well as provincial and municipal public health authorities in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Commodore TBYC
